Colorado hospitals collected an estimated $13.4 billion in facility fees over a recent six-year period, doubling the average cost of care for patients with certain types of insurance, according to a new state report released this week.

Delaware County, Pennsylvania, had one of the largest increases in hospital market concentration between 2012 and 2022 at 113 percent. Over the same period, the amount of adults in the county with medical debt in collections increased 0.9 percentage points while at the national level, this same measurement decreased 7.7 percentage points over the same period.
