When UT Austin got a new medical school for its more than $300 million investment, county officials didn’t require the school to provide direct care to low-income patients with that money. UT is now charging Travis County taxpayers millions more every year, beyond the more than $300 million, to cover care for the low-income patients the plan was supposed to help in the first place.
