It’s no secret that healthcare prices are out of control.
Studies show that $0.40 of every $1 spent in healthcare is from hospitals.
A new report from USofCare took a look at a handful of policy solutions that would save patients money, including site-neutral payments and bans on facility fees.
The study evaluated the impact that these policies would have on patients in Indiana, Massachusetts, and North Carolina and found that, on average, through site-neutral payments alone, Hoosiers would save $304, Bay Staters $239, and North Carolinians $175 a year.
What’s causing these price increases? Hospital consolidation, the acquisition of physician groups, and facility fees.
Lawmakers should focus on policies that address these drivers of healthcare costs and hold hospital systems accountable. Better Solutions will continue to highlight the root causes of high healthcare costs and find solutions for patients.
