Close to 85% of hospitals across Louisiana are still ignoring federal price transparency laws, keeping patients in the dark about what they actually owe for care.
Despite federal rules enacted in 2019 and reinforced earlier this year, only 15% of Louisiana hospitals are fully compliant.
Over the last five months, several hospitals in the state have been fined, including one that faced over $250,000 in penalties for making prices not easily visible to the public.
Senator John Kennedy, who introduced the “Same Care, Lower Cost Act”, is pushing for stronger enforcement and new legislation to rein in high costs and improve transparency for Louisiana patients.
Sen. Kennedy said, “Patients should only pay for the care they receive, not for the sign on the door or where they get treated. My Same Care, Lower Cost Act is a common-sense reform that expands patients’ health care options, creates greater transparency, and reduces taxpayer burden.”
Better Solutions for Healthcare is fighting for a healthcare system where patients come first, prices are clear, and fairness isn’t optional.
